The Easter holiday is probably the most ‘spiritual’ holiday of the year for Christians.. even more than Christmas… yes, that is true. Of course, the two holidays do have some things in common..the first being Christ, then the presents, candies, decorations and church.
But Christmas is about the ‘beginning’. Easter is about the ‘end’. Well, sort of… Easter represents both the death ‘and’ the Rebirth of Christ. His journey from man to messiah. His parting from this world and returning to the Heavens where he & it, all of this, began.
Easter then is really more about rebirth… renewal. In it’s simplest form it has represented the end of Winter and start of Spring. The end of darkness and start of longer, lighter, brighter days.
Where Christmas is associated with the innocence of the Lamb.. Easter has always been represented by the ‘bunny’, small, timid, harmless yet prolific. I love bunnies. I love all creatures, small and furry, sleek and scaled, large and feathered… All of them.
Today is Good Friday… traditionally it has been a somber day, a day of reflection and a day to ponder one’s true feelings about God, religion, our own spiritual journey. For most of us, today is also a day off from work. In my case, it is a day that the Financial markets are closed, which means that our company cannot do business… a ‘holiday by default’.
It is now 12:05pm., I am still home, still pondering the possible ‘things to do’ today. It is so rare that I have the chance to get out into the real world on a weekday, in the daylight, that I am literally overwhelmed with the choices. Which is why I’m still here, still surfing the web, and still trying to decide.
So, my Easter weekend has so far not been so much about pondering the meaning of Life, but about ‘how do I spend my few hours of ‘freedom’ from the cubicle?’ ….. nothing really remarkable, but I suppose it’s a good place to start.
